Ferries to Corfu & Greece
FERRIES FROM MAINLAND GREECE AND ITALY
Corfu offers a wide choice of ferry connections with mainland Greek and Italian ports. From the Greek mainland, there are ferries from Igoumenitsa to Corfu Town and Lefkimi, and from patra to Corfu Town (always en route to Italy). Ferries operated by a variety of companies connect Corfu with five of Italy's Adriatic ports, of which Brindisi has the shortest and most frequent crossings, especially during the slower winter months. From Athens, it is far quicker and easier to fly, although three or four daily buses cover the 10-11 hr route via the ferry from Igoumenitsa.

FERRIES FROM MAINLAND GREECE
The most common ferry crossing between the mainland and Corfu is Igoumenitsa-Corfu Town. The journey takes approx 1-½ hr and there is at least one sailing per hour between 5.15am and 10pm year round, sometimes two or three per hour in summer. The standard fare is 3.5€ (cars from 30€ depending on the size) and there is never any problem finding a place aboard. Passenger-only hydrofoils run the same route several times a day in season, taking half the time but costing about twice as much.
Very few foreigners use the Igoumenitsa-Lefkimi ferry but it can be a useful link if you are travelling to southern Corfu. The journey takes just under an hour and costs 3€ and there are six crossings daily in summer, fewer in winter.
Likewise, relatively few people use one of the Italian-bound ferries from patra to reach Corfu Town but it is a possibility from southern Greece. The journey takes six hours, and costs approx 20€ for a deck ticket. There are one to two overnight sailings daily in summer, with the occasional daytime.

FERRIES FROM ITALY
Corfu is connected by boat with Ancona, Bari, Brindisi, Venice and Trieste. The ferries between Greece and Italy have several classes of ticket, from deck through aircraft style seats and shared cabins to deluxe
In summer, it's essential to book tickets a few days ahead., especially in the peak July-August period - and certainly if you are taking a car across. During the winter you can usually just turn up at the ports, but it's still wise to book in advance if possible. Substantial reductions apply on many lines for both InterRail or Eurail pass holders, and for those under 26. Rail pass holders should check if there are free crossings on particular lines in any given year. Slight discounts are usually available on return fares for all travellers.
Most ferries depart in the afternoon or evening but there are occasional high-season morning departures. All voyage durations given are approximate. The companies with the most frequent crossings are given.
