| Flights to Corfu Greece
FROM BRITAIN AND IRELAND
At roughly 2OOOkm and three hours by air from London, Corfu is the nearest Greek island to Britain and was one of the earliest destinations for British tourism in Greece. Increasingly, when shopping around for flights, the best deals can be found through Internet sites , which largely cut out the middleman. Classified ads in national papers -the Guardian, Independent, Observer, Sunday Times -as well as Teletext are other useful sources, while local newspapers and listings magazines also carry adverts for companies |
CHARTER FLIGHTS
Between May and October, Corfu is well connected by charter flights from British and Irish airports: Gatwick, Manchester, Birmingham, Belfast, Bristol, Cardiff, East Midlands., Edinburgh, Glasgow, Luton, Newcastle, Norwich and Stansted all have charter flights to Corfu at least once a week in summer, as does Dublin. These flights have fixed and unchangeable outward and return dates, and are usually for one or two weeks, although most operators can offer three or four week flights for a nominal extra fee. There are also a limited number of charter flights around Christmas and Easter.
The cheapest charter flights to Greece are to be found during the shoulder months on either side of the July and August peak season and are usually weekday flights leaving late at night or early in the morning.
Flight-only deals from Gatwick to Corfu generally cost between £150 and £200, although "red-eye" flights, which typically leave Britain around 11 pm and arrive around 4am local time, can cost as litde as £120. Flights from major provincial airports such as Manchester and Birmingham tend to be £10-20 higher, those from Glasgow and smaller airports like Bristol £30-40 higher. Charters from Dublin generally cost 300-350€.
Even if you are planning an independent holiday, it is unwise to rule out a package deal that includes accommodation. These can sometimes cost litle more than the flight-only price, and you do not have to stay in your allotted resort the whole time, so it's worth checking out.

The low-cost airline Easyjet (direct booking only) also has two daily flights to Athens from Luton and one from Gatwick - fares can be as low as £40 one way , if booked well in advance. Aer Lingus and British Airways run scheduled services from Dublin to Athens via London but they tend to be expensive, around 400€. |
